for that flooding around the bay area. >>> good morning, everyone. thanks so much for joining us on this wednesday, the 23rd day of march. i'm sydnie kohara. >> hi, everybody. i'm frank mallicoat. happy wednesday. time now 4:30. 11 straight days of rain and more on the way. cbs 5 is on stormwatch today. >> elizabeth wenger is standing by at the bay bridge but first we'll check in with -- look at elizabeth with the hat on. it's raining out there. let's go to lawrence in the weather center first tracking the storm. hold on. >> almost feel guilty. those folks in the rain here's the weather guy in the nice cozy studio and folks, we have a lot of rain out there, flash flood watches up along the coastline. some of the rain coming down heavy so because of that we're watching out for the possibility of flooding. things have been very, very wet out toward the coastline all night. it started to move onshore and you can see boy, wow, look at the north bay getting pounded with heavier rainfall here in through santa rosa, san rafael, san francisco, and you can see the rain spreading in and across the bay. it's

morning, it is tuesday, the 29th of march. thanks so much for joining us. i'm sydnie kohara. >> hi, everybody. i'm frank mallicoat. time now 4:30 on a tuesday. and the ladies are all upstairs here and i guess we're going to kick it off with a little traffic, huh? >> yeah, we already have a major problem. there is a sig alert issued in the east bay. hayward connector ramp a major connector ramp from southbound 880 to southbound 238 closed. around 2:30 this morning a big rig hit the guardrail and crews are out there still trying to clean up. there is water and fuel spilled on the major connector ramp. so again, this happened a couple of hours ago now and that connector ramp is still shut down. also, we have some pretty good video of a power outage that happened overnight in oakland. check this out. it happened at kennedy and frederic. that's near 880 and 23rd avenue. nearby off-ramp was closed. that lasted about one hour. but yeah, 4:30 a.m. we already have two major problems across the bay area. so hopefully weather is a little calm they are morning. >> i can help -- hopefully the

to check in with miss elizabeth. i'm getting used to doing it down here with you. >> i'm going to have to borrow some. your enthusiasm julie. i hardly brushed my hair, it's all over the place. here's the bay bridge toll plaza. there is a little roadwork still on the upper deck from the incline all the way out towards the "s" curve. so two lanes are blocked until 5 a.m. a stall in oakland southbound 880 approaching oak street. so we'll have more details on that show you where else we're seeing delays. it's all coming up in a little bit. back to you guys. >> we'll get a coffee your way, elizabeth. >> excellent. >> great. >>> in just about 90 minutes, a federal hearing begins in the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. top pg&e executives are expected to be grilled during the three-day hearing. about 20 expert witnesses will testify, as well. an ntsb spokesman said thousands of pages of documents related to the investigation will be released today. last september's explosion killed 8 people and destroyed 38 homes in san bruno. >>> another big hearing today involves former giants slugger b

night at uc- berkeley. anne makovec joins us now from the campus where actually 17 people were arrested last night. anne, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. three out of the 17 people arrested are still in jail this morning. we know that all of the 17 were accused of trespassing. and some of them were also accused of resisting officers' orders. here was the scene last night of a mostly peaceful protest at the campus. it is all part of a national day of action protesting the increasing cost of a college education. hundreds of people gathering outside of wheeler hall here at uc-berkeley. and then they moved inside wheeler hall at about 9:30 last night sheriff's officers and campus police warned them that the building was going to be closing in a half hour and then at 10 p.m., they came in and arrested the 17 people who refused to leave. overall, though, the demonstrations were described as nonviolent but impassioned. >> the governor is trying to cut away the future of public education for millions of students in california. >> reporter: and there were protests going on yesterday as
